The offices of S&L were in a high rise building in downtown Chicago. My office was a shared office with another engineer. It was floor to ceiling walls with an opening between the 2 desks.
We had a department secretary who took dictation and typed up our letters. Remember, no computers or email. She was so good, she would prepare the standard letters for us automatically, such as drawing acceptance letters.
On the other side of the floor from the engineering offices was a HUGE drafting room. There were Designers and Drafters who took the single line diagrams we engineers created and changed them to detailed drawings. Once again, all on paper, by hand.
