March 1974 to March 1976. Sargent & Lundy was in the business of building power plants. I was an Electrical Engineer. S&L was a very structured environment. As an EE, I was responsible for choosing and ordering equipment for the power plants.
I also created single line diagrams of the electrical circuits. which were then sent to a designer to detail and then to drafting (on paper of course). These could be anything from motor control for pumps to relays on the distribution system. A lot of the things I did were cookie cutter based on old projects.
This was a great job for a fresh engineer right out of school to learn at. I learned to communicate with customers and vendors through business letters. Most of the engineering I did was not taught in my college classes, so the system of checks and balances helped me learn that too in a controlled environment.
