One day I was at our assembly shop in Bridgeview. A very large piece of aluminum was delivered for the machine we were building.
It was solid, as big as your fist. Beautifully rounded corners, mounting holes and some other holes. VERY expensive. We couldn’t figure out what it was for, so we called the designer. He couldn’t figure it out either from our description. He looked up the PO and found the drawing. It was a photo-eye bracket. These brackets are usually a little “L” shaped pieced of metal.
The designer said, “It didn’t look that big on the CAD!” We were too embarrassed to actually use it and got a standard bracket instead.
