When I started at C&NW, the offices were in the lower level of the Chicago station. I consisted of a few enclosed offices for the upper managers and cubicles for everyone else. AND, it was ok to smoke in the office.

During the station remodeling, the office were moved to a new building about 2 blocks north. Once again the big bosses had offices and everyone else cubicles. Moving was something else because we all agreed to clean all the cabinets before moving them. They were coated with years of nicotine stain. Thankfully, a lot less people smoked in the new office.

We had 2 secretaries, one mainly for the big bosses and one for the rest of us. We also had a green screen terminal and printer to get reports from the mainframe computer.
