UCC used telephone stepper relays for all of their control systems. Everything had to be hard wired and intricate drawings were made of the switches and connections. At this time, the programmable logic controller (PLC) was the new thing. Wire your devices to it and write a program to make your machine work.

We used the original Allen Bradley PLC. The program code was entered with a dedicated terminal which plugged into the PLC. We had no pc’s or printers yet, so all the program documentation had to be drawn by the drafting department from sketches we made.
