March 1976 to February 1978. United Conveyor Corporation was in the business of building systems to remove ash from coal-fired power plants. I was a Project Engineer in the Standards and Special Projects department.

My job was to pick the standard equipment to be used in our systems and create drawings for the control circuits used by the designers who worked on customer projects. I worked on the Allen Bradley PLC and helped create the first programs for UCC Systems. (Note, there is no version number on the PLC, programmable logic controller, because it was the first one.)
While working at S&L, I was approached by a head-hunter about this position. Since S&L was my first job, they had got me cheap. So, I received a 16% increase to move to UCC.
